Disclaimer

GPS Speedometer at gpsspeedometer.bond is a free, helpful browser reference maintained by Bhagya Masalawala. It is not a certified, calibrated, or safety-critical instrument. The information and readings on this site are provided for general information only and should not be treated as exact, official, or suitable for any decision where an error could cause harm. By using this site you accept this disclaimer together with the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

General information only

All content on this site — speed readouts, averages, maxima, distances, elapsed times, accuracy badges, guides, converter results, and FAQs — is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied. While I aim for correctness and test the tool in real browsers, I do not warrant that any reading will be complete, current, uninterrupted, or error-free. Browsers, operating systems, device hardware, and satellite conditions change over time, and any of them can affect what you see. Always use your own judgment and, where it matters, a legally required or professionally calibrated instrument.

Measurement accuracy varies

GPS accuracy is inherently variable. In open sky at steady speed, consumer GPS is often within 1–3 km/h, but that is a typical range, not a guarantee. Accuracy degrades in tunnels, underground sections, urban canyons with tall buildings, indoors, under dense tree cover, in bad weather with poor signal, and before the first fix has settled. The site shows an accuracy badge (± meters) and weak-signal or searching states to help you judge, but the badge itself is an estimate from your browser, not a laboratory calibration. Do not treat any single instant number as survey-grade. For the most meaningful picture, compare average speed over 10 or more seconds in good signal rather than reacting to momentary spikes.

Not a safety-critical instrument

This tool must never be used as a replacement for a vehicle’s legally required speedometer, a marine chartplotter or speed log required for navigation, an aviation instrument, or any other certified or safety-critical device. Vehicle dashboards are type-approved and deliberately calibrated (often to read slightly high for legal safety margin); this browser tool is not type-approved and has no such certification. Never rely on this site to judge a speed limit, stopping distance, navigation decision, or any maneuver where an error could cause injury, damage, or a legal violation. When in doubt, follow the certified instrument and local law.

Safe use — never hold while moving

Your safety comes before any reading. Never hold, tap, or stare at your phone while driving, riding a bike or motorcycle, or operating a boat. Mount the phone in a proper cradle before you start moving, start tracking before departure or ask a passenger to operate it, keep your eyes on the road, water, or path, and obey all traffic and navigation rules. On bikes and motorcycles, use a handlebar mount; in cars, use a dashboard or windshield mount where legal; on boats, secure the phone against water and motion. If you need to change units, pause, or reset, stop safely first. No speed curiosity is worth a crash.

  • Driving: mount the phone, do not touch it while the vehicle is moving. Let a passenger tap Start if needed.
  • Cycling and motorcycling: handlebar mount only, gloves-compatible large controls, stop to adjust.
  • Marine: this site reports speed over ground from GPS, not speed through water, tide, or current — do not use it for navigation decisions.
  • Trains and public transport: stay seated, hold the phone securely near a window, and do not lean out for a better signal.

No professional advice

Nothing on this site constitutes professional advice — legal, driving-instruction, marine-navigation, aviation, engineering, or otherwise. Guides such as “how GPS speed works,” converter pages, and FAQs explain general concepts in plain language for everyday understanding; they are not manuals for professional operation and are not tailored to your vehicle, vessel, jurisdiction, or conditions. If you need advice for a regulated activity, consult a qualified professional and the official instruments and publications for that activity.

External links and third parties

This site links to or loads limited third parties for practical reasons: Google Fonts for typography, Plausible Analytics and Google Analytics for anonymous pageview understanding, and Google AdSense for advertising that keeps the tool free (see Privacy Policy for details). I have no control over the content, availability, or practices of external sites and services, and I do not endorse them by linking. Any reliance on third-party content or services is at your own risk. The Content Security Policy and the disclosures in the Privacy Policy describe which third parties are involved and what they do and do not receive — notably, your GPS coordinates are never shared with advertisers or analytics.

Advertising

To keep this tool free, the site may display ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are clearly separated from instrument readouts and do not influence measurements. Google may use cookies to serve, personalize where consent applies, and measure ads. GPS data is never shared with advertisers because it never leaves your browser. Manage personalization in Google Ad Settings and see how Google uses data from partner sites. The presence of an ad is not an endorsement of the advertised product or service.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Bhagya Masalawala and GPS Speedometer disclaim liability for any loss, injury, damage, or expense arising from or connected with the use of, inability to use, or reliance on this site or any reading it shows — including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive matters. This includes situations where a reading was delayed, frozen, degraded by weak signal, or misread. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the site is to stop using it. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you; where that is the case, liability is limited to the minimum extent required by law.
