What this service is

GPS Speedometer provides a free, single-purpose, client-side speedometer that runs in your browser. Open the site, tap Start, allow location once, and you receive live current, average and maximum speed, distance, elapsed time, and an accuracy badge. Unit converters (mph to kph and reverse) perform pure math in your browser with no GPS involved. All pages are served as static files; there is no account system, no server-side location storage, and no obligation to pay, register, or install anything. I may add, refine, or remove pages and features over time to keep quality high.

Free tool, provided as-is

The service is provided free of charge on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability, or error-free measurement. I work to keep the readout clean and honest and the pages fast, but I cannot guarantee that the site will always be available, that every browser version will behave identically, or that every reading will be exact. Your use of the site is at your own risk and your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using it.

No warranty on measurement accuracy

GPS accuracy depends on your device hardware, browser implementation, environment (open sky versus tunnels, underground sections, urban canyons, indoors, dense tree cover), satellite geometry, and signal quality at the moment of measurement. Outdoors at steady speed, consumer GPS is often within 1–3 km/h, but that is a typical observation, not a promise. The accuracy badge (± meters) and weak-signal or searching states are shown so you can judge for yourself — they are estimates from your browser, not laboratory calibrations. Do not treat any number as survey-grade, and prefer averages over 10 or more seconds in good signal over instant spikes. See the Disclaimer for the full accuracy discussion.

Not a safety-critical instrument — safe-use rules

This is a helpful reference, not a certified, calibrated, or safety-critical instrument. Do not rely on it as a replacement for your vehicle’s legally required speedometer, a marine chartplotter or log required for navigation, an aviation instrument, or any other regulated device. Never hold or operate your phone while driving, riding, or boating: mount it in a proper cradle before moving, start tracking before departure or ask a passenger to operate it, and obey all traffic and navigation laws. Misuse that endangers yourself or others violates these terms and may violate the law. The Disclaimer explains these limits in detail and forms part of these terms.

No account, no location collection

There is no account, no signup, and no collection of location trails on a server. Location is processed locally in your browser memory and discarded when you close, reload, or reset the tab. Anonymous, aggregated pageview analytics may be collected for site maintenance as described in the Privacy Policy — never coordinates or speed. No personal data is sold, and there is no location history to export or delete because nothing is retained. Emails you send to hello@gpsspeedometer.bond are handled as private correspondence only to answer your message, as explained in the Contact Us page and Privacy Policy.

Acceptable use

Use the tool lawfully, sensibly, and for its intended purpose — checking speed as a reference and learning how GPS measurement works. You agree not to:

• Break the law, endanger others, or use readings for any official enforcement, certification, or legal proceeding where a calibrated instrument is required.
• Scrape, overload, disrupt, attack, or attempt to circumvent security, rate limits, or access controls, or probe the site for vulnerabilities beyond good-faith, non-disruptive testing you report responsibly.
• Reverse-engineer in a way that harms availability, misrepresents the service, or removes or obscures privacy, safety, or attribution notices.
• Mislead others by presenting screenshots or numbers from this tool as certified or official measurements.
• Submit unlawful, abusive, or malicious content via email correspondence.

I may restrict or block abusive access to protect availability and safety, without prior notice where necessary.

Intellectual property

The site’s design, text, guides, and client-side code are owned by Bhagya Masalawala or licensed for use here and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You are welcome to use the tool for personal, non-commercial reference, link to it, and quote brief excerpts with attribution and a link back. You may not copy substantial portions, republish entire pages, scrape content at scale for a competing index, remove copyright or attribution notices, or imply endorsement or partnership. The GPS Speedometer name and the site’s visual identity may not be used to confuse visitors or to suggest certification that does not exist.

Advertising and third parties

The site may display Google AdSense ads to cover hosting and maintenance costs so the tool can stay free. Ads are separate from measurements and never receive your location — GPS stays in your browser. How Google uses cookies for ads, how to manage personalization, and which sellers are authorized (ads.txt) are explained in the Privacy Policy’s Advertising section. The site also uses Google Fonts and privacy-respecting analytics as disclosed there. External sites and services operate under their own terms and I am not responsible for them.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Bhagya Masalawala disclaims liability for any loss, injury, damage, or expense arising from your use of, inability to use, or reliance on this site — including where a reading was delayed, frozen, degraded, or misread, and including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive matters. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable. Where liability cannot be fully excluded, it is limited to the minimum extent required by law. If you do not accept this allocation of risk, do not use the site.

Changes, severability, and contact

I may update these terms to reflect tool changes, analytics or ads configuration, or legal clarifications. When I do, I will update the Last updated date and, for material changes, note what changed. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
